Federal Booster OK ‘Adds Urgency’ to Global Covid Vaccine Push

Regulatory clearance of a Pfizer Covid-19 booster for some U.S. populations falls short of the Biden administration’s goal to get most immunized Americans an extra jab, but it still amplifies calls for sending more shots to poorer nations.

The Food and Drug Administration authorized a third dose of Pfizer Inc.'s vaccine for people 65 years and up, adults at risk of severe Covid-19, and those whose jobs put them at risk of infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday endorsed the use of boosters in those groups, overruling a narrower recommendation from the agency’s advisers.
