Jamaica Poised to Roll Out Jam-Dex E-Currency Nationally

Jamaica lawmakers have given final approval for the national debut of Jam-Dex, the country’s central bank digital currency.

The country’s Senate passed the required legislation on June 3, following the House of Representatives’ approval last month.

The Caribbean nation began a phased rollout of Jam-Dex on May 11, but needed the measure to pass the legislature before circulating the e-currency more broadly. Governments around the world have been exploring the benefits of sovereign e-cash.
