A group of plumbers and steamfitters failed to convince the US Supreme Court to hear their case challenging their pension fund’s decision to stop paying early retirement benefits to participants who continue working for contributing employers in managerial positions.
The court on Monday denied the workers’ petition seeking to undo a Second Circuit decision holding that the trustees of the U.A. Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 22 Pension Fund acted reasonably when they interpreted the plan as limiting early retirement benefits to participants who’d stopped all work for a contributing employer.
