Brazil won’t apply income tax to certain items used to fight the coronavirus, the federal revenue department said in a statement Thursday.
The tax break applies to imports by mail of up to $10,000 of items such as medicine, masks and gloves for healthcare workers, and ventilators or the parts used to build them.
- Such goods ordinarily face a 60% tax when imported into Brazil, the statement said.
- The break is intended to apply, for example, to large shipments of goods donated from people outside of Brazil, it said.
- The measure, announced in an ordinance from the Ministry of Economy, applies until Sept. 30.
