Chile Senate to Approve Tax Package This Month, Minister Says

Chilean senators will approve legislation to raise more taxes from the rich later this month, Finance Minister Ignacio Briones said Jan. 2 after meeting with Senate Finance Committee members in Santiago.

Under modifications agreed to by the government and opposition senators in December, the bill will introduce a new 40% band for personal income tax, impose a new tax on valuable properties, and reduce the tax burden on small and medium-sized enterprises and the elderly.
