Ethiopia’s State Phone Monopoly to Build 4G Network in Capital

Ethiopia’s state-owned telecommunications monopoly plans to install a 4G network in the capital of Addis Ababa and all regional cities by July 2020.

The investment plan comes as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed looks to award telecommunications licences to two private operators next year, opening up the market for the first time. A minority stake in Ethio Telecom will also be sold as part of an ambitious economic liberalisation program.
