EU Panel Warned of Remote-Working Tax Risks After Pandemic

European Union countries could end up losing out on the tax revenue tied to high-earning employees if tax preferences are used to lure away employees who can work remotely after the pandemic.

More countries could institute tax schemes to attract employees and service providers who are no longer expected to spend each day at the offices of their employers, speakers told the European Parliament’s tax committee during a Tuesday hearing. A number of companies—Siemens AG, Suez Group, and PSA Group among them—have agreed with employees on some kind of permanent remote work arrangements.
