EU Eyes Plan to Make Withholding Tax Easier for Investors (1)

The European Union wants to standardize systems throughout the bloc for claiming withholding tax relief on cross-border securities investments.

EU investors could save more than 8 billion euros ($9 billion) per year if a more harmonized system for claiming back withholding taxes led to easier and quicker refunds, and reduced double taxation, the European Commission, the EU’s executive, said in a consultation document released Tuesday.
