EU Tax Reporting Initiative Clears One Roadblock, Others Remain

The European Union will turn its attention to the details of a long-delayed tax transparency rule after the bloc’s countries indicated on Thursday that they could finally support the measure.

Industry ministers from most EU countries said in a videoconference that their governments would back a requirement for large companies to publish details of their tax payments within the EU, with payment information broken down on a country-by-country reporting (CBCR) basis.

The rule would improve transparency over company tax affairs and “create incentives for more responsible tax conduct,” said Simon Kollerup, Denmark’s industry minister.
