EU Wants to Turn Up Scrutiny of Possible Tax Haven Jurisdictions

The European Union is preparing to cast its net wider to identify jurisdictions with tax regimes considered harmful to the bloc, the official in charge of drawing up its tax haven list said Monday.

Examination of non-EU regimes will be broadened to include more jurisdictions and will take into account the extent to which tax systems encourage companies to reassign their profits from the EU, Lyudmila Petkova, the chair of the bloc’s Code of Conduct group on business taxation, told a meeting of the European Parliament’s tax subcommittee.
