Hungary Opposes Minimum Tax Plan, Undermining EU Unity (1)

Hungary’s deputy finance minister on Tuesday reiterated his country’s opposition to any global minimum corporate income tax rate.

In comments on the Finance Ministry website, Andras Tallai said Hungary won’t support the introduction of “any global tax.”

“We simply cannot support a tax increase, even if the idea has strong supporters,” he said in the comments, which first appeared in the daily Magyar Nemzet.

Hungary wants to maintain a good relationship with the U.S., but this cannot be at the expense of “one of the most important elements of its economic sovereignty, the right to impose taxes,” he added ...
