IRS Denies Taxpayer Advocate Request for Passport Program Relief

The IRS won’t create a broad exception from its passport revocation and denial program for people who have open cases with the Taxpayer Advocate Service, the agency said.

After a review, “the IRS has determined that a blanket, systemic exception for anyone with an open TAS case is overly broad and could undermine the effectiveness of the statute enacted by Congress in the FAST Act to collect a seriously delinquent tax debt,” the agency said in an Oct. 16 update.
