Pandemic Offers Opportunity to Pressure Tax Cheats, Canada Says

The coronavirus pandemic offers a chance for national authorities to raise pressure on those exploiting tax loopholes, thanks to a growing sense of collective responsibility, a top Canadian tax official said Wednesday.

The Canada Revenue Agency could increase pressure by, for example, publishing data on companies’ effective tax rates instead of just their statutory rates, deputy assistant commissioner Ted Gallivan said at the TaxCOOP 2020 World Summit in Montreal.
