Top EU Official Outlines Future Tax Information Exchange Plans

The European Union wants member countries to automatically exchange more tax information, the top EU tax official has said.

In particular, a proposed measure to share data on cryptocurrency income would now also feature provisions on exchange of information on tax penalties and compliance measures, said Paolo Gentiloni, the EU’s economy commissioner.

“I am absolutely sure that we need further steps” so that data is exchanged by tax authorities “on as many categories as possible” of income, Gentiloni said during a European Parliament debate Monday.
