U.S. Threat of Digital Tax Retaliation Unjustified: EU Official

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden should drop threatened countermeasures against European Union taxes on mainly American digital platforms, one of the bloc’s top finance officials said Tuesday.

The EU and its member countries “have the right to decide how the companies active and making profits in the EU are being taxed,” and threats of retaliation are not a “valid approach,” Valdis Dombrovskis, executive vice-president of the European Commission, said after a meeting of EU finance ministers.
