The Alabama Governor June 9 signed a law exempting timber lands from local fire district service charges and fees for property tax purposes. The law includes measures providing that: 1) a local fire district shall not be authorized to assess any type of fees or dues upon forest land that is treated as timber land; and 2) the authority and responsibility for the control and coordination of fire prevention, fire protection, and fire fighting services on land treated as timber land shall be under the jurisdiction of the Alabama Forestry Commission. The law generally takes effect June 9. [/AL\FINAL\2019R1SB282///
