Alaska Airlines Skips Director Meeting, Loses Oregon Tax Appeal

Jan. 3, 2022, 10:18 PM

Alaska Airlines Inc. can’t appeal its Oregon tax assessment to state tax court because it failed to exhaust its administrative remedies when it canceled a requested conference with the Department of Revenue, the Oregon Tax Court said.

The company requested a “director’s review conference” after receiving its tentative assessment for the 2020-2021 tax year but canceled it after communicating informally with department staff and reaching agreement on valuation or modification of its tax. Alaska Airlines didn’t ask for a final order and opinion from the director before filing an appeal with the tax court.
