Arizona Rushes to Conform to Federal Tax Code Changes

Arizona lawmakers are asking the Legislature to quickly approve the state’s conformity to the federal tax code, but there’s debate over what to do with the potential revenue windfall.

Identical bills introduced in the Arizona Senate and House Jan. 22 and Jan. 23 would conform the state’s income tax code to changes under the 2017 federal tax law (Pub. L. No. 115-97). Sen. J.D. Mesnard (R) and Rep. Ben Toma (R) want the changes to be revenue neutral and are introducing measures in both chambers at the same time with the hopes of passing legislation more quickly.
