Centralized Sales Tax Collection Gets a Boost in Louisiana

A study group took the first step Monday to push Louisiana lawmakers toward centralized sales and use tax collections.

But revenue officials and business interests will have to negotiate audit issues and control over the proposed collections board before the Legislature convenes April 12.

The Centralized Sales and Use Tax Administration Study Group agreed to recommend creating a political entity, within the state constitution, to collect state and local sales and use taxes, with funding from state and local sources of revenue.
