Chicago City Council Casino Committee Approves Bally’s Proposal

The Chicago City Council’s special casino committee has approved a $1.7 billion proposal by Bally’s Corp. that had been selected by Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s administration.
The gaming company had proposed a complex that would include the third-largest US city’s first casino, as well as a hotel, theater and restaurants on a portion of the site now housing the Tribune Publishing plant.
The proposed casino complex is eventually expected to deliver around $200 million a year in tax revenue, which could help chip away at Chicago’s burgeoning fire and police pension costs. Pensions are a major cost weighing on the ...
