Cuomo’s Curtailed Power Complicates Tax Deadline Extension (1)

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s curtailed pandemic powers mean state lawmakers may have to intervene to extend the state’s tax filing deadline, according to an official familiar with the matter.

Lawmakers are already drafting a bill to extend the deadline to avoid having to wait for further legal clarification on whether the governor has unilateral authority to take action, according to Democratic Assembly Member Phil Steck. No legislation has been formally introduced in the Assembly.
