Eighth Circuit Won’t Rehear IRS Win in Virgin Islands Tax Fight

The Eighth Circuit won’t reconsider an IRS collections challenge from a Virgin Islands resident and her late partner and the territory’s government.

Judith Coffey and the Estate of James Coffey, along with the Virgin Islands government, had sought review of a February ruling, requests that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit rejected Monday.

The ruling sided with the IRS for a second time, finding that tax forms submitted to the island’s tax bureau weren’t filed with the IRS because Judith Coffey wasn’t a Virgin Islands resident.
