Fiserv Unit’s Tax Refund Request Draws Doubt From Ohio Justices

The Ohio Supreme Court seemed dubious at oral arguments Tuesday that it should rule on a Fiserv Inc. subsidiary’s sales tax refund request instead of allowing a remand to the tax commissioner.

CheckFree Services Corp., a financial technology company, wants the justices to find that two of the core digital services it provides for banks are wholly nontaxable. Justice R. Patrick DeWine questioned why the lower tax board declined to rule on the taxability question and remanded the case to the commissioner.
