Hawaii Gov. David Ige (D) will veto a bill that would have required Airbnb and other online hosting platforms to collect taxes on behalf of the state, saying it doesn’t complement counties’ regulation of such services.
S.B. 1292, which would require Airbnb Inc. to register as a tax collection agent and collect general excise and transient accommodation taxes in the tourist-heavy state, was among 20 bills on Ige’s intent to veto list. The list was released late June 24.
