Illinois Overhauls Gaming Tax to Revive Chicago Casino

Chicago’s chances of claiming a jackpot in new gambling tax revenue are improving after Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed legislation Tuesday overhauling the state’s gaming tax statute.

The measure, S.B. 516, revamps the gaming privilege tax for a proposed casino in the city. By lightening the tax created under a 2019 gambling expansion bill, the new law may heighten investor interest in a stalled Chicago project.
