Iowa would become the 25th state to eliminate sales taxes on menstrual products under a measure approved by lawmakers and headed to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ (R) desk.
An amendment to the state’s bill, S F 2367, would exempt diapers and menstrual products from sales taxes. On Monday, the proposal passed the Senate 44-0, with six absent votes. The House cleared it 83-0, with 17 absent or non-voting.
To date, 26 states charge sales taxes on period products, according to Period Law, a law and advocacy campaign to remove the tax in the US.
