Louisiana Legislature Passes Tax Break for Gambling Industry

The Louisiana gambling industry is poised to get a tax break, thanks to a measure the Legislature is sending to the governor’s desk.

The legislation (S.B. 5), if signed into law by Gov. John Bel Edwards (D), would allow for $5 million of net gaming proceeds attributable to promotional play wagers to be deducted from gaming operator revenue—subject to taxes and fees—for riverboat casinos, land-based casinos, and racetrack slot machines.
