New York’s Public Service Commission and not utilities will establish a commercial tariff or alternative rate structure for electric vehicles, after Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed an amendment that shifted the responsibility.
Hochul’s signature on March 18 means the commission will be responsible for setting up a mechanism to fund faster charging options for electric vehicles. The newly signed S.B. 7836 moves the onus from utilities, who were previously in charge of creating a more flexible billing system for charging stations in the original S.B. 3929, passed last year.
