Any corporation that makes money from data shared by New York consumers would have to pay a 5% tax on its gross income under a bill introduced in the state Legislature.
The proceeds of the proposed digital tax (A9112/S6102) would go into a state fund that would disburse a portion of its earnings to taxpayers. The fund would be held by the state comptroller and the state tax commissioner, and overseen by a board that would set the disbursement amounts.
