NYC Landlords’ Bid to Halt Property Tax Fails as Suit Is Tossed

A federal judge threw out a lawsuit by a group of New York City landlords who said they shouldn’t have to pay property taxes when the state is preventing them from evicting tenants who aren’t paying rent because of the pandemic.

The real estate companies sued in early June, saying New York state’s moratorium on evictions violates their property and due process rights and has created a “nightmare scenario” in which they can’t collect rent from commercial or residential clients but still have to pay taxes and late fees.
