Pennsylvania to Enlist Software Firms for Online Sales Tax Help

Tax software companies such as Intuit Inc., TaxCloud, and Avalara could soon get more business in Pennsylvania under a state effort to certify providers to help online vendors pay the state’s 6 percent sales and use tax.

The plan would make Pennnsylvania the first state that isn’t a member of the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement to use a certified software vendor program to help remote vendors comply with its sales tax laws, Scott Peterson, director of governmental affairs for Avalara Inc., one of the six companies certified under the SSUTA, told Bloomberg Tax March 1.
