Rhode Island is poised to become the fifth state to legalize online sports betting.
The state House of Representatives on March 12 approved a pair of online sports betting bills (S.37 SubA/H.5241 SubA) by a vote of 64-8. They now head to the desk of Gov. Gina Raimondo (D), who has indicated she will sign them.
Online sports betting will be available in the state before the end of 2019, Paul Grimaldi, spokesman for the Department of Revenue and the Rhode Island Lottery, told Bloomberg Tax in an email.
