San Francisco Bay Area Cooking Up Taxes for Upcoming Ballots

San Francisco Bay Area cities and counties are focused on taxes as they consider measures for the November and March ballots.

June and July are when local officials propose initiatives for voters to consider—and housing and transportation are fueling a raft of measures. San Francisco is proposing ballot measures to tax Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. rides up to 3.25% to fund transportation and to add a 1.12% tax on stock-based compensation to support housing.

Another San Francisco measure would place a 0.1% tax on companies that pay CEOs 100 times the company’s median salary to fund mental health. ...
