Sports Betting in Louisiana Gets Lawmakers’ Final Approval (1)

Sports betting would become legal in Louisiana, under regulations awaiting the governor’s signature.

One bill (S.B. 247), which the Senate passed 33 to 3 on Thursday, outlines rules and policies that would allow wagering on sporting events in the 55 parishes that voted last year to allow sports betting. The House approved the measure 78 to 15 on June 3. A separate bill enacting taxes and fees on the bets (H.B. 697) was signed by Gov. John Bel Edwards (D) on June 7.
