State of Wayfair: AT&T, Verizon Back Marketplace Opt-Out Model

Telecommunications companies are pushing states to adopt a model marketplace-facilitator law that includes an opt-out for large sellers.

The business community likes a recent model law from the National Conference of State Legislatures, which permits large companies to enter into agreements with marketplace facilitators specifying they—not marketplace facilitators—may collect and remit taxes, Richard Cram, director of the Multistate Tax Commission’s National Nexus Program, said Thursday in a telephone interview.
