Taxing Ultrarich New Yorkers Resisted by Cuomo’s Budget Director

New York state’s budget chief on Monday pushed back on plans by state Democratic legislative leaders to target the ultrarich with $7 billion in tax boosters.

Budget Director Robert Mujica told reporters the combination of higher tax receipts and additional aid from Washington abated any immediate need for budget cuts or tax increases to cover a previously anticipated $15 billion budget shortfall proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).
