Taxpayer-Rights Law Technicality Wins Case for Alabama Company

The Supreme Court of Alabama vacated over $100,000 in back taxes and court fees a lower court ruled a casket maker owed Jefferson County, because the county failed to comply with the state’s Taxpayers’ Bill of Rights, or TBOR.

The court on Friday dismissed Wilbert of Birmingham LLC’s appeal of a Jefferson Circuit Court ruling that the casket maker owed $112,728 for unpaid licenses, sales taxes, court fees, and accrued interest.
