Utah Task Force Calls for Income Tax Cut, Restored Grocery Tax

Utah lawmakers unveiled a plan that would cut the state’s individual and corporate income tax while wiping out the sales tax exemption for groceries and other tax breaks.

The bill draft, introduced Nov. 7 at a meeting of the Utah Legislature’s Tax Restructuring and Equalization Task Force, calls for slashing the state’s income tax rate from 4.95% to 4.58%, imposing a new 10-cent-a-gallon tax on diesel fuel, restoring the full 4.85% sales tax on unprepared food, and eliminating certain sales tax exemptions.
