Washington Lawmakers Send Low-Income Tax Credit to Governor

Low-income Washington residents would receive a tax credit of $300 to $1,200 a year under a bill lawmakers sent to Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday.

The bill (H.B. 1297) expands the Working Families Tax Credit, with the amount based on income and family size. It is similar to the federal Earned Income Tax Credit but is considered a credit for sales and use taxes, since Washington has no income tax. It won final passage with a 93-3 vote from the Senate to accept changes made in the House.
