2020 Refunds Top Priority As IRS Copes With Processing Backlog

The IRS’s first priority is processing refunds for returns filed this year, though it is also dedicating resources toward the backlog of unprocessed returns from last year’s filing season, an agency official said.

A group of lawmakers pressed the IRS last month on its plan for getting through last year’s backlog and sending out refunds to taxpayers caught up in that delay.
