Congress faces several deadlines early this year, including extending government funding beyond Feb. 18, as Democrats continue negotiations on President Joe Biden’s broader economic agenda ahead of the midterm elections.
That proposal is in flux after Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) objected to the latest version of the tax and social spending plan, which includes policies on climate change, health care, and child care, as well as tax changes for the wealthy and large corporations.
Democratic leaders also said they want to bring up measures to strengthen voting rights and U.S. competition with China.
