Brady Revises House Tax Bill, But Senate Holds Key to Passage

A revised version of a year-end tax bill released by Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) has been sweetened to help pass the House but faces tough opposition in the Senate.

House passage would likely set up more negotiations with the Senate and inclusion of some Democratic priorities, a former member of Congress who spoke on the condition of anonymity said. Some provisions, such as repeal of the Johnson Amendment, could be discarded in the Senate as Republicans tried to get the nine Democratic votes they would need to pass a tax bill in the lame duck, or post-election...
