Bumpy Road Ahead for Ohio Governor’s $1.2B Gas Tax Plan

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine wants his fellow Republicans who control the legislature in his tax-adverse state to pass a massive gas tax increase after 14 years of no hikes.

Ohio has the second largest number of bridges, the fourth largest interstate system, and the sixth highest number of vehicles traveled of any state. But its funding is largely based on the country’s 29th highest gas tax (28 cents per gallon). And under the John Kasich (R) administration, the Buckeye State took on debt to avoid making drivers pay more at the pump.
