California lawmakers approved measures Monday that would offer cash aid to low-income residents and tax-free grants to small businesses as part of a $7.6 billion pandemic relief package.
Lawmakers postponed action on another $2 billion in aid through a bill (A.B. 80) that would allow, but cap deductions for business expenses paid with forgiven federal Covid-19 relief loans. The expense deduction was part of the relief package Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and legislative leaders announced last week, but they are still working on the details and may take it up next week.
