California Reopens, Expands Small Business Sales Tax Relief

California is reopening and expanding a program to help small businesses weather the pandemic by giving them one year to remit up to $50,000 in sales tax they have collected from customers.

Businesses with annual taxable sales of less than $5 million can apply to enter payment plans for taxes due in the quarters ending Dec. 31, 2020 and March 31, 2021, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Monday. They will have 12 months to pay the tax in installments without interest or penalties, he said.
