Cigarette, Vaping Taxes Would Rise Under House, Senate Bills (2)

Reps. Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.) and Peter King (R-N.Y.) introduced a bill that would raise taxes on cigarettes and levy an equivalent tax on e-cigarettes.

The bill also would ban flavored e-cigarettes while providing resources for those who want to quit smoking. The measure seeks to increase the federal tax on cigarettes to $3 per pack from $1, with a similar tax on e-cigarettes.

The bill is supported by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, and the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, according to a statement from Suozzi’s office.
