Craft Brewers Pick Up Steam in Push for Permanent Tax Breaks

A pair of House lawmakers renewed a push to permanently give tax breaks to craft beer brewers, cider makers, vintners, and distilleries.

The 2017 tax law gave beer, wine, and spirits producers a two-year reduction in federal excise taxes, including halving the tax rates of small domestic brewers to $3.50 from $7 per barrel on the first 60,000 barrels. Those provisions are set to expire at the end of 2019.

Reps. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) and Ron Kind (D-Wis.) Feb. 13 reintroduced legislation that would permanently reduce certain excise taxes for craft beverage manufacturers, Kelly said in a Feb. 13 statement....
