Monte Jackel, who most recently was a senior tax counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, has been named special counsel to the IRS chief counsel.
Jackel will work closely with Michael Desmond, who was sworn in as chief counsel on March 8.
- Jackel has previously held positions at both at the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department, including as a special counsel in the Passthroughs and Special Industries Division of the Office of Chief Counsel.
- “With his extensive background in the taxation of partnerships, including cross-border partnership transactions, Monte will be a great addition to the Office of Chief Counsel,” Desmond said in an April 30 news release.
- Jackel worked with Desmond in the private sector, consulting on a variety of tax issues in 2012 and 2013 for the law firm Desmond ran before joining the IRS.
