American drivers are returning to the road after months of coronavirus stay-at-home orders, with revenue from gasoline and diesel taxes nearing pre-pandemic levels. The U.S. government collected more than $3.8 billion in fuel taxes in July, up from less than $2.2 billion in June. The levies feed into the Highway Trust Fund, the primary financing source for highway and transit projects.
