Gas Tax Advances in Alabama, Promises Over $300M for Roads

An Alabama gas-tax proposal expected to generate more than $300 million annually for roads and bridges is moving ahead in a special legislation session.

H.B. 2 would phase in a 10-cent per gallon increase on gasoline and diesel fuel taxes by October 2021, and implement an extra annual registration fee of $200 for electric vehicles and $100 for plug-in hybrid vehicles.
